History A mid century icon in Bag Design and Manufacture 'Peter Black' was Born Hans Schwarzschild in Frankfurt, he came to England and changed his name in the 1930s and founded his name-sake company in Keighley North Yorkshire, England in 1947 producing shopping bags.
In the 1950s the company diversified into footwear and in the 1960s opened factories in Skipton, Ilkley, Shipley, Leyburn and Egremont. The business became a public company in 1971 and he started to produce his bags in collaboration with Adidas.
